Heathwood

Home Our Suburbs Heathwood

Heathwood has long been considered to be part of Pallara – the UQ Queensland Places website (2015) lists “Pallara and Heathwood.”

In the 2011 census Heathwood was part of the “Pallara-Heathwood-Larapinta” Statistical Local Area.  The census figures show the exceptional recent growth in the area.  In 2004 the combined population was 829: by 2008 it had almost tripled to 2259.  Much of this increase was in Heathwood (1820 in 2011).

Heathwood now has a fast-developing residential section north of Logan Rd.  Advertisements target young families and emphasize links to established Forest Lake facilities such as shopping and schools.

South of Logan Road, the South Brisbane Industrial Park advertises differently:

“Heathwood – About 21km south-west of Brisbane’s CBD. Includes industrial estates and residential, separated by the Logan Motorway. Excellent access to Logan and Ipswich Motorways. Well serviced by a strong blue collar workforce. Home to many manufacturers, distribution companies and major corporate, including the Coles Myer regional distribution centre.” Raine & Horne Commercial

Some bush remains in Heathwood, once considered part of a bushland corridor linking Karawatha Forest to Greenbank. Its survival seems unlikely.
